Common KYC Requirements in India
Whether you are opening a bank account, doing SIP investments, applying for a credit card, or using a government service, KYC (Know Your Customer) document upload requirements are standard:
- Format: PDF or JPG
- File size: Usually 100 KB to 2 MB per document
- Photo: Clear, not blurry or dark
- Full document visible: All four corners showing, no cropping of important details
- Self-attested copy for some applications (signature and date on the document)
How to Get a High-Quality Aadhaar/PAN Photo
- Place the card on a dark flat surface
- Ensure all four corners of the card are visible
- No reflections — shoot in indirect light, not direct flash
- Hold the phone directly above (not at an angle)
- Tap to focus before capturing
Converting to the Required Format
To convert a photo to PDF:
- Go to iloveconvert.in/image-convert
- Upload the photo
- Select PDF as output
- Download
To convert to JPG (required by some banks):
- Upload the image to iloveconvert.in/image-convert
- Select JPG as output, set quality to 85%
- Download
Reducing File Size for Portal Limits
If the portal rejects your document due to size:
- Upload the PDF to iloveconvert.in/compress-pdf
- Compress and download
- Most Aadhaar and PAN document PDFs compress to under 200 KB
DigiLocker — The Official Alternative
DigiLocker (digilocker.gov.in) stores your official Aadhaar, PAN, driving license, and other government documents digitally. Documents downloaded from DigiLocker are accepted as originals at most portals. This avoids the need to scan physical copies altogether.
Self-Attestation
Some applications require "self-attested" copies. Print the document, sign at the bottom with the text "Self-Attested" and the date, then photograph and convert to PDF as above.
