Common Document Requirements for Indian Portals
Whether you are applying on NSP (National Scholarship Portal), university admission portals, or state government websites, you will typically encounter these requirements:
- File format: PDF or JPG
- File size: 50 KB to 2 MB (varies by portal)
- Photo size: 10 KB to 200 KB, often 3.5 × 4.5 cm at 200 DPI
- Signature size: 10 KB to 100 KB, white background
- Documents: Aadhaar, marksheets, caste certificate, income certificate — each separately
How to Prepare Each Document Type
Passport Photo (for Application Form)
- Take a clear photo against a white wall in good lighting
- Upload to ILoveConvert → Image Converter
- Select JPG output, set dimensions to 413×531 pixels (35×45 mm at 300 DPI)
- Download — should be under 100 KB
Scanned Certificates and Marksheets
- Photograph the document flat on a dark surface in bright light
- Upload to ILoveConvert → Image to PDF
- Download as PDF
- If file is too large, use Compress PDF to bring it under the portal limit
Signature
- Sign on white paper with a black or blue pen
- Photograph just the signature (crop tightly)
- Convert to JPG with white background
- Keep under 50 KB
File Size Not Meeting Requirements?
Use the Compress PDF tool to reduce PDF size. For images, reduce the dimensions or use JPG at 70–80% quality. Most scanned certificates can be brought under 500 KB without any visible quality loss.
Common Portal-Specific Requirements
- NSP (scholarships.gov.in): Photo under 100 KB, documents under 200 KB each
- DigiLocker: Accepts PDFs and images for official documents
- CUET/JEE/NEET portals: Photo 10–200 KB, signature 4–30 KB
- State government portals: Usually PDF under 1–2 MB per document
Keep a Document Folder Ready
Create a folder on your phone or computer with pre-converted versions of all commonly required documents. This saves time during applications when portals have deadlines and slow upload speeds.
